2019 County All Stars

The third annual County All Star event means much more than two counties squaring off. There is underlying message of humility, which resonates with its event founder Mike McGarrell. This year’s event was also special because Make- A -Wish Georgia was also a big part. Between the Founder and Make A Wish, the lessons that were taught this event will stay with them for a lifetime.

Georgia- -The third annual County All-Star game between Gwinnett and Cobb County was filled with lots of talent. Both roster full of Division 1 talent, potential draft picks, and Perfect Game All Americans. The game was held at Hillgrove High School.  The score ended in a 9-6 win in favor of the Cobb County All-Stars.  The Gwinnett Stars jumped out on a 6-0 lead early, but that did not intimidate the Cobb stars at all. Notables were Uncommitted Geno Grover and Uncommitted Brett Bloomquist who both homered.   Below you will find notes on the players who stood out during this years County All-Star Game.

  1. Geno Grover SS The Walker School

Geno Grover is an uncommitted shortstop that plays for The Walker School.  Grover hit a two run homer.  Grover posses a good bat at the plate that can later translate with power in the future. He is smooth as they come at his position, and can pick it with the best of them.

  • Druw Jones OF/P Wesleyan

Druw Jones son of former Major League baseball player Andruw Jones.  There is no doubt that Druw Jones can play, just a freshman, he can hit, field and run. Jones showed up last night with a hard hit double down the left field line, and came in the bottom of the 8thinning at tossed a scoreless bottom half with two strikeouts. He is definitely one of top players in his 2020 class.  Look out for Druw Jones has he continue to develop his game within the upcoming years.

  • Brett Bloomquist INF Allatoona High School

Brett Bloomquist came into the All-Star game with a bang!  Bloomquist came into the game in the 5thinning, and made an immediate impact by launching a two run home run to straight away right field giving the Cobb County All-Stars a 8-6 lead in the bottom of the 6th.  Bloomquist can make play multiple positions making him very valuable to a team.  Bloomquist received MVP honors.

  • Josh Shuler OF North Gwinnett High School

Their would be no surprise to see Josh Shuler in this year’s County All-Star game, the South Carolina commit as he always does and lets the game come to him. Shuler plays with poise.  Shuler went 1-1 and drew a walk.  This summer will be big for Shuler as he continues to prove he is worth the hype.  Shuler will get alot of interest from professional scouts in the upcoming draft

  • Jared Jones Catcher Walton High School.

Jared Jones known as “Bear Jones” is an offensive machine.  It is scary to think that he just completed his freshman year.  Jones hit for average and power; hitting .420 with 10 plus homers. Jones did his thing in the County all-star game, going 2-3 with a double.  He presents a big frame standing in 6-4; although at this young age, he has a pretty good idea for the strike zone.   For the next three years he will be a threat at the plate, and he is only going to get better offensively and defensively

We look forward to next year’s County All Star game. The players made this year’s event a great success
